On 3 May, Jenny Sheppard showed us how to make these simple boxes filled with paper tunnels. Mason bees will stock these with pollen and nectar, then lay eggs, one in each compartment that they form by partitioning the tunnel with mud walls. The workshop participants kindly made two boxes for us and we installed them in our insect hotel. Within days, mason bees had moved in. As you can see in this photo, two tunnels are filled and sealed. In the upper left cell, an adult bee is busy laying more eggs. For more information, please see our blog post
