Norway Spruce cones (Picea abies)

This tree is large and conspicuous, and widely planted across the region, especially in forest plantations. The ones at FWG were planted long before we took over the site. Their very large cones are distinctive and a good ID, as is the trees characteristic 'drooping' silhouette (at least, that is how it looks to me). Although non-native, they do provide good shelter and food for wildlife.
