Tortoise beetle larva (Charidotella)

I find the larvae of tortoise beetles to be as fascinating as the adults. Look at the shape of them! And look at that fecal shield held over their body! Many of the larvae I've seen have been green; this is the first black one I've found. When I first spied this it looked like a tiny bit of dead plant matter on the leaf and I almost passed it by - but when looking at insects it pays to never pass anything by!
