At Peasant, a very good Italian restaurant in the Nolita section of New York City 2/1/04

Here I am with Sixto the pizza man at his brick oven.

My daughter and son-in-law took me to Peasant last night after their friend recommended it. The food was so tasty, we had 2 baskets of peasant bread, 5 appetizers, 1 pasta, 2 entrees and dessert. Reading from my daughter's list, I see that we had baked sardines, razor clams, baby cuttlefish, tripe, speck-wrapped mozzarella balls, spaghettini with shaved gray mullet roe, lamb osso bucco, Florentine-style beefsteak, and panna cotta pudding. The waiter thought we ordered too much for 3 people, but we ate everything. Chef Frank DeCarlo did a wonderful job with all the dishes.

I could barely see the menu in the candlelight, but fortunately my daughter always carries a small flashlight for "emergencies" like this!
