Champagne Pool

A shot of the Champagne pool in the Wai-O-Tapu Geothermal reserve outside of Rotorua in New Zealand's North Island.

The deep geothermal water below Champagne Pool is of the order of 260 °C but the water temperature within the pool is maintained at 73 °C to 75 °C due to heat loss to the atmosphere.

The beautiful orange colouration around the rim of the crater lake originates from deposits of arsenic and antimony sulfides within the pool.

I still think I will pass on going for a dip. A great almost mysterious image with the little spit heading off into the mist. I like the layering of colour.
