08 January 2006

Tired of the white background for once. Not tired of the flowers yet though. I was going to do this one all in color but in the end I liked it as a partial bw better. The background is packing paper btw.

Post-processing was levels, desaturation of everything except the flower, and brightness/contrast adjustments. Turns out, the umbrella lights are good for creating shadows if you remove the umbrella ;)

After posting this I went downstairs to clear away my stuff and instead started shooting some more. I am obviously having too much fun with the tulip and the vase.

Here are some of the other out-takes:

Great eye and idea to use the shadow in this way. Nice use of selective color as well. As nice as this one is, I think I even favor #4 and #5 of your outtakes. All very beautiful! I LOVE that vase(?), it's unique and pretty!

That's a neat vase. I like the selective black & white because you can't really tell unless you look at the others. I liked the last 'extra' the best (even more than this one, sorry!)

Very cool, the desat makes the flower POP out at ya, and the vase adds intrigue since its not a shape that is quickly identifyable.

The minimalsim, shadow, and texture of the background make this an awesome shot

Love this one - really beautiful comp and colours (or lack thereof!). Spare and elegant

Beautiful shot... elegant, simple yet very unique in the angle shot and the use of the sahdow. The red flower really stands out against the otherwise drab color scheme. Excellent job again!
