07 April 2004 - Daisy Delight

  • POTD (Black & White) at DigitalPhotoNut.com for 14 April 2004

  • As promised ... I'm back to the store-bought flowers. They won't yield many more photo opps though :( Anyhow, I really didn't have a clear idea in mind other than trying another flower in the vase kind of shot, but this time w/out the fisheye lens. This is what I ended up with, I'm very pleased with it, even though it took (for my standards) quite a bit of editing.

Shot with very shallow DOF to "lift out" the top flower from the rest of the photo. First I edited out the stem of the flower lying on the ground, then did some slight curve adjustments. Since the image was fairly monochrome I then converted to grayscale and toned with a warm orange. Next, resized, applied USM and then loosely selected the top flower, inverted selection and applied a soft focus filter to the remainder of the image. Then added the border and the signature.

other sizes: small medium original auto

I love that the hues of the flower are matched to the vase. Very nice shot.
