Italy

We traveled through Italy by train for two weeks. Starting in Milan, we then went to Trento via Verona, where we spent a long afternoon. Skiing (Will) and relaxing (Franziska) in Trento, then onto Vicenza before one of the highlights of the trip - Carneval in Venice. After Venice, we moved onto Bologna (food capital), with a side trip to Modena (city of balsamic vinegar). Then, with a half-day stop in Florence, we moved onto Cinque Terra for some hiking, before cutting our trip there one day short to get back to Milan before the train strike (what would be a vacation in Italy without a strike, right? ;)

There are many more images to come, I've just started sampling my photos here and there and uploading a couple of them.

Franziska, I really liked your Italy images, and I appreciate your testimony about getting started in photography. Thank you, you've done very well to capture feelings, not just images.

I thought that some of the metaphysical imagery was really particularly effective. Interesting rhythmic devices, too, which seemed to counterpoint the surrealism of the underlying metaphor of the frauliciousness of the photographer's compassionate soul which contrives through the medium of the images' structures to sublimate this, transcend that, and come to terms with the fundamental dichotomies of the other and one is left with a profound and vivid insight into whatever it was the photo was about! Really!

I love the way you handle lighting, how you isolate your image so that it seems to have it's own presence in it's own time. Beautiful work, Franziska!
