A Fine Catch!
This morning, I watched a Great Blue Heron and a Great Egret fishing not far from each other. The heron starting moving forward slowly. I thought it was going to chase the egret away. Instead, all of a sudden it struck and came up with a large fish. This is one of a few shots I got of the bird and its prey. It has been pretty foggy here for a few days, and was again this morning.

Cracks in the Ice!
It's interesting that we still have some ice on Delta Ponds, even though we have had a few warm days since our snow storm and ice last week. Our snow is pretty much gone now, except for a few spots and what is piled up in parking lots.
I wonder what winter is going to be like?

An Oregon Industry
For years now, one of Oregon's major industries has been timber. Though timber production has been reduced, Oregon remains a leading producers of lumber in the US. This small mill operation is representative of what was seen in many more locations in the past.
Some of the changes have been noted in Wikipedia:
"Vast forests have historically made Oregon one of the nation's major timber production and logging states, but forest fires (such as the Tillamook Burn), over-harvesting, and lawsuits over the proper management of the extensive federal forest holdings have reduced the timber produced. According to the Oregon Forest Resources Institute, between 1989 and 2001 the amount of timber harvested from federal lands dropped some 96%, from 4,333 million to 173 million board feet (10,000,000 to 408,000 m3), although harvest levels on private land have remained relatively constant.[54]."

Bearded One!
The long hair on this Great Blue Heron's neck reminds me of a beard. Certainly is a handsome bird, don't you think? Seen at Delta Ponds.

Like Dancers in the Spotlight
Some in this grove of trees stood out in the morning light, like dancers in a ballroom spotlight.
Hey, I have a good imagination! LOL

Log House On A Hill
The morning sun highlighted this log house against a foggy hill. This is the largest log home I have seen and it is beautiful.

Frosty Fence!
The snow and ice is going away! Hooray! But I have to say that the frost made this fence look better!

A December Day
I finally dug the Explorer out of the snow this morning and went to get groceries. Coming home I saw this scene along the edge of the store parking lot, with the ice covered trees against a dark, threatening sky.

S'no Foolin!
Our old bird bath isn't quite ready for customers! While it is still snowing in this scene, the snow is supposed to gradually start going away tomorrow. Only problem is that we now have a storm warning for freezing rain tomorrow night and Thursday. Seems to be a lot of winter weather in autumn.

Can You Give Me A Hand?
I wonder if the guy who is missing this single glove might be called 'Cool Hand Luke'?
