The Beauty of Alton Baker Park
"Alton Baker Park, Eugene’s largest developed park, is home to dozens of recreational features and facilities serving the City of Eugene since 1959. The park is made up of two major areas: the more developed West Alton Baker Park, and the 237-acre Whilamut Natural Area." (

Pretty In The Ponds
This morning, I was delighted to see this Great White Egret surrounded by the beautiful colors of Delta Ponds, and was able to capture this view.
Now you, too, can see why it delighted me.

New England Aster
"There are more than 600 species of true asters, ranging from 6 inch high alpine kinds forming compact mounds to open branching six foot tall plants. Flowers come in white or shades of blue, red, pink, lavender, or purple, mostly with yellow centers." (Sunset Western Garden Book) This one is a New England Aster.

The Best Apple From Our Tree!
This beauty was the best apple we got off our tree this year. It was a beauty.....and I ate it! First, though, I just had to have a picture of it.
Last year we had the best crop of apples ever off of that tree. This year wasn't as good, but this apple was! And it tasted so good!

Farm, Fog and Sun
The sun came out as fog hung over the landscape, resulting in this pleasing farm scene along Lorane Hwy out of Eugene.

I Talk To The Trees!
Today was not one of my better days. Thinking my gas gauge had quit working and that I had filled my tank, I took a friend for a drive. About 25 miles from home, the Explorer sputtered to a stop. I restarted it and moved on, only to have it quit again. Now I began to doubt myself. Is the gauge really malfunctioning, or could it be possible that the tank is empty? Hmm, guess which was correct? While waiting for our oldest daughter to rescue us, I had time for contemplation and talking to trees.

Red-Osier Dogwood
The correct ID for this bush found in Delta Ponds is Red-Osier Dogwood. It is native to Oregon and the Northwest. I think it is surely beautiful. Thanks for the ID to Carrie and her experts at Eugene Parks. Others also identified it for me. Thanks all!

Spotlight On Beauty!
I can't help going back to a favorite subject, our beautiful hibiscus, now in full bloom. It has four big flowers.
In the lovely evening light the flowers came to life, and the stamen stood out in contrast with the red petals.

Intruder Gone Wild!
The other day I posted a photo of a beautiful, tall trespasser in our backyard.
The beauty is a Naked Lady (Belladonna Lily or Amaryllis), and is now 28 inches tall with five flowers! It is going wild out there!
Of course, we had a rain storm yesterday and that helped.
This photo shows the tall, leafless stem and five flowers showing off before the other plants and one stumped observer.

Oregon Football Performance Center
The new Oregon Football Performance Center is really something to see! Nothing was spared to make it one of the finest of sports athletic centers in the country.
Football pays the bills for college athletic programs and it's become big business these days. Recruiting has become much like professional bidding for the services of athletes the country over. So we are seeing stadiums and facilities being refashioned into large entertainment centers with many amenities. Oregon is working hard to become one of the top football facilities anywhere. This center is certainly impressive! Sports Illustrated recently did an article on this new facility -

Guard Duty!
These three barriers and the wall are in front of an office building near Delta Ponds. Perhaps it is only part of the site design.
But those barriers are in front of the main entrance. I guess it is designed to protect the building from wild drivers.

Leaves In A Forest
The leaves are beginning to turn around here, and they are beautiful in backlight. These leaves were in the Eastgate Woodland, Springfield's part of Alton Baker Park.
