Ring-Necked Duck Pair

My Birds of Oregon book ID's these birds as 'Ring-Necked Ducks' even though I see no ring around the neck. The ring seems to be around the bill! :)

The little P510 was shot at its longest focal length of 180mm, equivalent to 1000mm in 35mm format, not the highest IQ for the lens. But it didn't do so bad.
Pretty impressive for such a tiny sensor.

This came out very well, Vern. I've seen these guys too, and only occasionally, in the right light can you see the ring on the neck - it really blends into those dark feathers most of the time.

Nice catch. I have never seen them before but my bird guide agrees with yours.

Those black and white ducks always look like they have a flat profile. They are so unusual and amazing. Excellent capture Vern!
