Evicted!

This osprey pair built a nest in the field lights on the University of Oregon's practice field again this year. The femaile was already sitting on the nest as you can see in this photo. The University evicted them anyway, and tore down the nest. What the osprey have done is not clear. Poor timing, in my view! It made the headlines here.

That's very sad. Hope they had time to make alternate arrangement (the birds, I mean of course).

Great image! A real shame about the eviction. V

Must have been wearing Adidas.

Totally out of order, they should have left the nest alone until the osprey young had left the nest.
Cindi Smith05-May-2012 03:48
I didn't think they could do that. Not right! Glad you got a pic of them!

You'd think that to avoid a public relations nightmare, the University would help to build a couple Osprey nest post elsewhere in the area.

It's sad they didn't wait until the eggs hatched and the babies flew away. Then made it so a new nest couldn't be built next year. I suppose it's a fire hazard though, those lights put out a lot of heat.

Lovely capture of this pair. They should have waited until their return south.

Here is another vote for the Ospreys...

Nice documentary image...
No comment on the drastic action of the university....

What a shame they took such drastic action, they should have waited until the young had been raised. Some have no thought for wild things.

The same thing happened here at the local baseball field where I walk the dogs. We watched them work so hard to make the nest. We were so disappointed when the town took it down and blamed the wind. I didn't get a photo of ours. Nice job with this shot.

That is so unfair.
Guest 04-May-2012 22:11
That is a shame, and I am surprised that they were allowed to do it.

Poor Osprey.

Great shot Vern Ospray are the most interesting birds, This act by the U of O is tipical of this school.
Judith Barnett04-May-2012 17:58
That is just plain awful! I don't understand why the nest was removed during the breeding season, this is just wrong and should be protested!
John Reynolds LRPS04-May-2012 17:51
What a shame. Glad you got a picture before they were moved on V.

Looks like a high tech nest!
Felix's Nana 04-May-2012 15:52
They should have done it after they were done last year or waited until they were done this year. Beautiful birds and so sad to loose such a magnificent nest. (and hatch-lings to come)
graham 04-May-2012 15:37
nice shot of the osprey
Martin Lamoon04-May-2012 15:30
Great picture, pity they moved them on. v
Walter Otto Koenig04-May-2012 15:02
That is a real pity. Sorry to learn this. At least you got a shot of the nest before it was taken down. I suggest you send the image to the University and ask for an explanation.

That is a shame! Not enough people care anymore!!
