Pre's Rock

Steve Prefontaine was a nationally known track star and much beloved in Oregon. He was born in Coos Bay and attended the University of Oregon, where he starred on the track team. He died while still at his peak as a runner at age 24 in 1975. Two movies were made of his life.
Pre's Rock is the spot where he crashed his sports car.

Going to college at University of Oregon in the late '70's most people knew who Steve Prefontaine was. Running the wood chip "Pre's Trail" along the Willamette River in Eugene, on foggy mornings and other times, was an incredible experience, even for an amateur runner.

Pre was a hero to many high school runners in the 70's. I was one of them. I was a 14 year-old runner on the verge of breaking the nevada state mile record for my age group. Pre died on my birthday. I never ran again.

Pre was a hero to many high school runners in the 70's. I was one of them. Visiting Pre's rock is a moving experience. The site is decorated with medals won by runners far and wide.

Steve Prefontaine was one of the Best Runner ever. To see how someone could have so much self discipline and dedication to one thing such as running.Is like a gift from god, handed to him by God himself and said don't Disappoint me. Which he never did, he ran every race like it was his last. He's such an inspiration to me as well as a role model. My only wish would be,that i could run with him, and ask him want truly incouraged him to run.

Pre is a legend!!!! Those looking for inspiration need to take a look at how he lived life and competed every single day. Pre LIVES!!!!!!

These really put a location to the event that ended his amazing career. I've watched the movie "Without limits" a couple times.
