Capitol Reef boasts some of the country's clearest air. (Mesa Verde had a similar claim before the Four Corners power plant went into operation.) Even during the recent extreme windstorms, when Green River - 110 miles away - had visibility like Los Angeles, Capitol Reef had hundred-mile clarity.
Because of this, the sky is as beautiful as can be found anywhere. Clouds and slanting sun almost map themselves to canvas.
