Rhett Butler was nowhere to be seen, nor was Scarlett O'Hara, but the Blue and Gray were out in full force this weekend near Atlanta.
Back in 1996, when Hotlanta hosted the Olympics, they built a horse park for the equestrian events. That land seems to be tailor-made for re-enacting. Lots of parking, and tons of unused space, both fields and wooded. With enough gently sloping (!) hills to make sure you give your heart a mild workout. There were even a few shade trees around the spectator area.
The battle area was at the bottom of one such slope, which in essence provided stadium-style seating for the spectators. Those who wished to use their tripods were relegated to the standing area near the top of the slope, but that was for the afternoon battle, when the crowd was larger. At 1030 Saturday morning there was a cavalry battle, and spectators were sparse enough that one could sit or stand where one chose, including right up against the orange line separating the action from the observers. I chose to go up one level, which was still close enough to see the action, but gave a better perspective. And with the close-up adapter for my lens, it was as good as the front row (and in the shade).
I've not processed all the pics yet, but I've worked through the cavalry battle pics, and found the ones I liked best of them. I'll work on the others throughout the week, as I have time (time is starting to be scarce).
I'm sure you're wondering why I've called you together.jpg
