1. use the Layer style option to create a drop shadow
2. right click on the drop shadow layer style icon in the image layer
and select Create Layer. This moves the drop shadow to its own layer
I changed Layer blending mode to Normal
3. Transform shadow as desired with Free transform tool
4. Duplicate shadow layer and apply gausian blur.
5. apply layer masks to both shadow layers and use the gradient tool to reveal
blur in the distance and sharp in the foreground
6. Adjust opacity of shadow layers until desired effect
7. Then I added a Bevel/emboss style to the image layer and directed the light
to correspond to the shadow.
