work area options

Try changing the work area background of PhotoShop by pressing the "F" key.
This will hide the bounding window of the image and give you an uncluttered background.
It also gives maximum room to use tools like Guides, bounding boxes for tools like "Transform"
When in this black canvas mode, all menus are still available just by clicking on the arrow at the top of the Tool Box.
