1. open image of wood
2. Type text with the type tool using black foreground color
3. Change the text layer to lighten or screen mode (the text will disappear)
4. Open the text layer style window and activate the bevel/emboss style
5. Change Bevel/Emboss style to PILLOW EMBOSS.
6. Adjust the option settings until desired effect is obtained.

This simulates "raised" lettering. The next image uses different settings
to simulate "recessed" lettering.
