If you are traveling on a Vietnam tour package, then all of your transportation is taken care of. In general, roads in Vietnam are in good condition, and improving all the time. For longer distances, fly Vietnam Airlines. The carrier has an excellent network within Vietnam, and flights to the key cities in the region (BKK, HKG, SIN, etc). Tip: within Vietnam, upgrades to business class are inexpensive, usually $30-50 per leg. This is well worth it. For a few dollars more, you get: separate (and fast) check in, use of airport VIP lounges (complete with drinks, hot meals, and comfortable seats while you wait for your flight), expedited luggage delivery, priority boarding, and much more comfortable seat with extra space + legroom.
