Wish my area would get with the times. So many wires it's hard to take a decent photo.

I detect some cynicism in the photo's caption. I was under the impression that the signs were designed to tell drivers how fast each lane's traffic was moving, so that drivers in a hurry could switch to the faster lanes. Lane-switching eventually causes all lanes to have the same speed, thus justifying the enormous expense of the signs.

Most civic officials are graduates of the Notner MBA program. Master of Bugger All

Now I'm disillusioned.

But I saw an article today about construction beginning on NYC's 2nd Ave subway line, the
building of which was approved by referendum around 1950. Can't make this stuff up.

Jason, they are not sinister, just totally incompetent.

Our municipal government doesn't have the brains to do anything sinister, they can't even build a streetcar line

"The price tag of the new St. Clair streetcar line nearly doubled because nobody was in charge as the project's scope ballooned, public consultation ran amok and more than 20 small contractors tripped over each other. Six years later, the final cost is expected to be $106-million and the last 300 metres of the line won't open until June".

or add some wider sidewalks

"The preliminary bill is in for Bloor Street’s makeover, and it’s nearly $4.5-million higher than the original contract.

The cost of beautifying the Mink Mile has ballooned to nearly $24.2-million from $19.7-million".

Meanwhile closing the road for a week. It is something very sinister: municipal government.
