The birds in Southeast Washington have been a challenge to photograph. We think the only reason I got this shot is that the Flicker appears to be this years hatchling and it may not have developed an aversion to people yet. In the ten days we've been photographing here this is the only bird (other than a sleepy owl) that sat still for long enough to let you focus the camera. Northern Flicker facts: The Northern Flicker is one of the few North American woodpeckers that is strongly migratory. Flickers in the northern parts of their range move south for the winter, although a few individuals often stay rather far north. ~ All About Birds
