The concept of a waterslide originated when humans invented water aqueducts. Laborers quickly learned that they could get back to the lower levels by riding the aqueduct. Loggers in some areas built flumes to transport logs to the sawmill. Again, workers used the system to quickly move themselves from the top of the hill to the bottom. Commercial water slides, used for recreational purposes, grew out of the idea of a 'quick ride down the slope'. The Aquannis Pool and Fitness Centre, in Duncan, BC, opened in 2008 and one of its popular features is an indoor waterslide. The exterior view leaves little doubt that this slide would give users a 'quick ride down'.
