A June 2003 Hike along the Ingalls Creek trail came as the wildflowers were just finishing blooming. Ingalls Creek is on the East side of the Alpine Lakes just South of the Stuart Range although most of the views of the Stuart Range from this trail were just little peeks at peaks. Probably the most interesting part of the trip was the rattlesnake I ran into as I was walking down to the creek. He was probably about fifteen feet away so no real danger although there is always a moment of adrenaline when you hear that rattle. He was stuck between me and the creek so he could not retreat in the opposite direction due to the creek. So he stood up in an aggressive position for a minute or so and then saw that I wasn't going to do anything and he slithered off to the left. I only got a few shots, being careful to keep an eye on him but at least one turned out decent:
Years ago they use to go rattlesnake hunting up Ingalls Creek.....I heard a story that 400 or so were rounded up in one day.....you were lucky....this area is infested w/ them. Took my first winter overnight here in 1967 w/ Orchard JH Alpine club. That was one winter trip I care not to repeat. ha ha
