B.L.M. - Cowiche Canyon

I took a late November visit to Cowiche Canyon under sunny skies. This little hike is a Rails to Trails conversion on the Western edge of Yakima. It was formerly part of the Burlington Northern Railroad line from Tieton to Yakima. The rails and ties have been removed and now it serves as a nice walkway following the rail bed alongside Cowiche Creek between the canyon walls. Below are a few photos from Cowiche Canyon:

I really enjoyed these pics. I grew up at the top of these hills and would hike down into the canyon on those summer days. We would then wade in the creek, you captured, and cool down.

Really miss the beauty of Cowiche Canyon. Left Cowiche in 1970, and have only been back a few times over the years. We don't have the rugged beauty of Cowiche Canyon here in Florida. Thanks for the pics.

I was born in Growmore,just outside Yakima and grew up running around the Cowiche. Now that I'm much older i find myself thinking a lot about it. One thing i have never known but would likie to know, is what is the english translation for the word Cowiche?
