Erich, interesting idea. I guess I had the advantage that you'd already told me it was not a photo even before I read the caption (which I always do in case there's something worth knowing in there).
At first glance, it looks like a photo. However, there are telltale signs that aren't so hard to see when you look a bit closer. The most obvious one is the unnatural sharpness of the edges of many of the items themelves and their shadows. Isolating items in a way that looks natural when they're pasted into a new scene can be tough to do. The tendency is to make the cut too sharp, but in reality when you pixel peep you see that edges are never that sharp. When you cut, you really need to feather the selection a bit to approximate what the object would look like in a real scene. Furthermore, the shadow is never as sharp as the edge of the object casting the shadow, so more feathering (and maybe other processing) is needed.
OK, all that said, this is an effective and enjoyable collection to look at. Thanks for doing this and posting it Erich. What a fun project with a worthwhile outcome for us all to enjoy.
This is a wonderful memento.......puts everything into perspective. ANd there's a couple we haven't seen before, too! :-)
