Sunspot number 1040 resembles a trilobite in a photo taken with a Questar Duplex, an Identi-View solar filter and an Imaging Source DMK31AF03 firewire camera. For scale, an illustration of the earth shows the relative size of this sunspot group. I took it from my suburban Milwaukee yard and added false color to the monochrome picture. A version of this image was featured in the Imaging Source astronomy camera blog. You can see a closer photo of this sunspot by Australian amateur Dennis Simmons at Spaceweather.com.
