Opened in 1942 as a military camp, it was designed to look like a fishing village. It was sold to the NSW Department of Health in 1947 and became a psychiatric hospital in 1949.
In the 1960's it was used as a holiday retreat for psychiatric patients from throughout the state. Since 1985 it has been used for patients with developmental difficulties.
