The town of Soltaniyeh was built by the Ilkhanid Mongols and served as their Persian capital from 1302 to 1384.
The building is named after the Mongol sultan, Oljeitu Khodabandeh. With a 25m diameter and a height of 48m it is the world's tallest brick dome.
