The Alsace had been on our wish list of places to visit for a long time, and got even higher on the list as we saw some of the stunning pictures of this area here on Pbase over the years.
With some extra free time available in September 2011 we decided last-minute to go for a week to explore some of the Alsatian villages and scenery along the Route des Vins.

We were not disappointed! Every village is so lovely, you could walk around them for days and days and never get bored. The people in the area are also extremely hospitable and friendly. We have totally fallen in love with this region, and hope to return many times in the years ahead!

And so, we managed to grab a long weekend in the area again in late August 2012. We visited some familiar and some, to us, new places. Time was short and the weather wasn't always with us so we have already marked the towns and villages we want to return to during our next trip down this region.
