Michael, after having read your fabulous comment about the true nature of this sofisticated device I realized that the whole engineering effort put in to it was total waste ! They could've surely seize fires of any magnitude by group "nature call" dispersion of highly effective bodily fluids, considering the fact that beer & wine was never in short supply. One might wonder if they ever had a specific job description for firefighters of this kind in Middle Ages ?!

Hello O Evil One. Considering the plumbing involved and the spotty wetness on the floor, I believe you have discovered the world's first and only mobile toilet facility. And, considering the huge quantities of beer and wine consumed in Alpine countries, this mechanical invention makes mucho sense. And so when they say this is a "fire truck", in a sense it is.... it provides ultimate comfort for those who unexpectedly are feeling the uncontrollable effects of having imbibed too much. As far as putting out real fires? With a device like this, who are they kidding? Superb historical photo. Oy. Michael.
