As an European , I am embarrassed that this flaw escaped an attention of currency auditor during design and approval phase. Too late, the bill is released and we all have to live with that until next issue. My personal exposure to WCs in conjunction with royalty or “honorable” people was limited to few exiting entries in Rome, Italy and Hampton court, England. In first place they advised me that every time when I unzip my pans I get in spiritual touch with Roman emperor Flavius Vespasian, who imposed taxes on toilets and went in to eternity straight away. In second, which happen to be a royal place, I was fighting with opposite gender for stalls in common (!) toilet which were completely exposed to everybody and anybody. I don’t deny that the mental shock I experienced in England might’ve left something like “WC” on the back of my mind and caused such spontaneous outburst… Michael, I also went through “below belt show” in London, but without long lasting side effects !

Of course, Eldar, if you should travel to London, when people refer to the "WC" they are generally NOT referring to Churchill and definitely not WC Fields (even though they may empathize with his comment that folks "who hate children can't be all bad"). In England WC is the "Water Closet." It is what we westerners refer to as the "bathroom" "powder room" "head" or "john." Now it is really curious that the letters WC should refer to both Churchill and the Bathroom in England.... it is perhaps the ironic, comical way, the Brits hold their lengendary heros in such high esteem.... And talking about high esteem.... one of my most memorable experiences in London was the time I used the group WC above the theatre where I saw the Brit version of Phantom of the Opera. What you do is to walk up one story to the WC which is located just above the ticket window of the Theatre. Walking inside the WC you notice that the urinals are all positioned straight ahead with big picture windows right above the flusing mechanisms. This means that as you wizz away, you can easily and pleasantly gaze out, getting a great eye view of all the action on the stree below, viewing all those folks anxiously doing business by the ticket window. Likewise, if you happen to be in the streets, and should happen to look up above the ticket window, you will observe lots of contented, relieved male faces looking out at you and you will know that they look at you kindly as they are wizzing away in your very direction.... All this at the London WC above the theater. I believe both WC Fields and WC Churchill would be quite happy to have their names remembered in this manner.... Now what this has to do with your Bank of England Ten Pound Note.... it was indeed the inspiration of me remembering this London experience. All my best, Michael.
