Thats the literal translation of the three Chinese characters. With the wooden plates one can count how many times he/she has climbed the 785 stairs to the main shrine (Kotohira Hongu) of Konpirasan. The goal is to visit it 100 times. On the way to the uppermost shrine of Konpirasan, you have to climb another 583 stairs - at summerly 40 degrees quite a challenge, as I can tell from own experience.
