Absolute Beerenberg

A total overview of the central crater basin, from near Hakluyttoppen N/2203.
Unfortunately the steepness of the crater walls is notably flattened by the ultra wideangle perspective here,
and the rocks in the foreground are not at my feet, but substantial lava features some 100-200 steep meters down in the crater wall below.
The crater is ca. 1500m across. Hence, imagine the width of those crevasses!
And note their perfect curves, where the Weyprecht begins to move!
Mercantontoppen/2188m to the left, King Haakon VII topp/2277m to the right.
The bergschrund encircling the basin is very big, and a major obstacle for any descent to the crater floor.
We were seriously tempted to descend here, but dropped it due to time consumption and unpredictable weather.
But no human being has ever been down there to date...

This "no human being has ever been down there to date" is pretty exciting, isn't it? - c.a.t.
