Pål observes the Wille (closest) and Petersen glaciers from Mercantontoppen/2188m.
Far out in the SE you see Søraustkapp (Cape Southeast), and behind it 1000 km open sea towards the Norwegian mainland.
Just 8 days earlier an earthquake grade 4,5 Richter scale was registered out sea, just some 50 km from Jan Mayen.
Its epicenter lay further NE along the MAR, which would be somewhere slightly to the left of this image.
This of course added some extra thrill to our scramble around the edge of the volcano's main kettle...
