71º N

A short rest in the hills.
Here the GPS stated exactly 71ºN latitude! (same as the famous Nordkapp in Norway)
We carried heavy loads, our rucksacks weighed in at some 30-35 kg, bound to be carried 1300 meters high, up to our base camp on the mountain flank.
Also note S/S Aurora lying on the sea in the background to the left.

Yes, you should go there!
But official regulations for trekking into the landscape have now changed, and you are no longer allowed to walk anywhere,
but confined to follow certain tracks/routes only, preventing access to most of the terrain on the island (unless specifically dispensated).
Hence you're no longer free to do what we did. This comes in addition to the official allowance you must have in the first place, for visiting the island as a foreigner.

Regarding Aurora, the abbrivation S/S is ambivalent, and can also mean "Sail Ship", as well as "Steam Ship" :)

Now let's suppose a terrible storm swept Aurora away while you were climbing. Did you have a satellite phone or some other emergency communication system in case a tragedy like this would happen?
