thanks for this tutorial. it saved me money and time. while i was in there, i fixed the high beam indicator. the blue piece of cellophane material was ruined and showing white light. used a blue tab from a file folder. just slid it behind the clear film that seals the opening.
Tried this repair after dinner last night. Worked like a charm on my '84 R100RS. Only thing I didn't pay close attention to was photo 9 - mark speedo BEFORE removing needle and cover. Thanks for sharing your story with us.
I INJECTED JB KWIK WITH A MEDICAL NEEDLE & SYRINGE
Thie worked perfectly on my 1076 R75/6. I did not have to disassemble past the step in photo 7. I used a Q-Tip and alcohol to clean the gear and shaft surfaces and let them dry before applying super glue. I used a toothpick as suggested and was very judicious, applying several small drops at different points around the shaft and gear mating point. Thanks very much for a great writeup.
Exactly my problem, but the wheels are jammed somehow. I don't understand how they work. Can someone explain how to align the number wheels with the plastic gears above them so they don't jam?
Fixed my speedometer! Thanks!!! Doug in Carpinteria '77 R60/7
great help on repair my odo!! I have been putting this off for 6 months.. was done in (2) cups of coffee (less than 2 hours!) Thank you Randy!!
Thanks for your excellent photos and comments. They turned a job that I was afraid to attempt into a job that was straight forward and enjoyable.
Great help. Thanks. Of course, I spent quite awhile looking for the blue marks in my speedo ;>)
GREAT. very clear and informative.
Great shots! Wish I'd seen this last spring when I spent hours trying to figure out which gear was slipping; looks like I'll get it out again. Didn't know about the tach indexing either.
