An early farmstead in Lower Salford Township, now a park, historic site and offices for the Lower Salford Historical Society.
Jacob Reiff was born in 1698 in Germany and died here in 1782. Around 1727, Reiff acquired 546 acres which formed his "plantation" in what was then Salford Township. Remarkably, his farming operations were carried out with slaves. There was also a mill associated with Reiff. This house is built over the well and a stone cold cellar which was not the norm. It is possible that this house is a later extension of an earlier, possibly log, structure. Currently, analysis is missing to make a determination. The construction date of this current house is not known but it may have existed as early as 1733.
These pictures were taken during a LSHS Christmas season tour in 2011. Some of the decorations and furnishings seen may be just for the event.
