Pottsville is the county seat of Schuylkill County, centered in the anthracite mining area of Pennsylvania. Coal was discovered near here in the 1790s. In the following century the area boomed with mining and railroading activity.
On our Lewisburg trip, we stopped with intent of touring the Yuengling Brewery. This is a family owned business established in 1829. The brewery in Pottsville has been in continuous operation since 1831. And yes, they make some good stuff - Ye Olde Photographer is partial to their Black & Tan. As we hit a hole in the tour schedule, we returned on 20 September and caught a tour. Great fun and they are quite generous with the "tastes".
