The Ceramics Club at Montgomery County Community College sponsored a demonstration of the ceramic arts on Saturday, March 25, 2006. The artist was Philadelphia artist Neil Patterson. He and his wife, Sandi Pierantozzi, maintain a studio in Philadelphia. Neil teaches at Tyler School of Art, Temple University. He and his wife also teach privately and at various workshops.
In addition to traditional wheel-thrown froms, Neil uses the wheel as a tool, throwing
bottom-less cylinders and other shapes, cutting them open to create textured slabs

The demo included cups with pulled handles, teapots and jars, and a container made as a
composite of a wonderful assortment of shapes and textures. A "bent" cylinder was
made as a quick demonstration of an approach to making a design selected from an
assortment of sketches done by the workshop attendees. The event was quite inspiring,
one feels certain the combination of Mr. Patterson's personality and talent makes him a fine teacher.
