Near milepost 13 there was a major project in 2009 and 2010 to replace an old, narrow and deteriorated bridge over the Perkiomen Creek. After a first pass in December 2009, it took a while to return after having three major snowstorms during the month of February, among other hazards.
This was a $4.643 million project — financed with state money — and was described as 28 feet wide with two 11-foot travel lanes and two three-foot shoulders. Completion was scheduled for, and actually happened in, October 2010. The bridge opened on October 29. It appears the description skipped the trail or else the shoulder widths were combined and shifted to provide a separate trail portion.
