The resident of this house was responsible for collecting tolls and monitoring conditions of a wooden covered
bridge that spanned the Schuylkill River at this spot. Duties included shoveling snow inside to allow vehicles with
runners to get through in winter weather! The bridge (rebuilt after a flood or two) was in service until 1951.
