It's tempting to say "just a box," but it's actually a fairly complex beast. The reflex mirror and mechanism, winding
crank gearing for film advance and shutter cocking, and the battery and electronics to control the lens-mounted leaf
shutters are all in this component. As shown here, it has a Bogen/Manfrotto quick release plate on the bottom.
