Casting slip - diluted clay with some additives - is poured in to
fill the mold. The mold is plaster, and where the slip is in contact,
the plaster extracts moisture, leaving a thickened coating at the mold
surface. After some period of time, the surplus slip is poured out and
the remaining clay on the mold surface allowed to dry down further.
