Meyer Motor Tractor

A clever idea that did not become a commercial success. J. Max Meyer had a shop in
West Chester, PA where he intended to build steam powered automobiles. Before that got
started, he switched to gasoline engines and came up with his motor tractor. This was a
powered assembly that would replace the front wheels and axle of a horse-drawn wagon to
turn it into a self-propelled vehicle. It could even be switched from wagon to wagon, a
concept now embodied in the tractor trailer. Alas, this prototype was as far as it got.
