These photos are a somewhat random sampling, taken at the 48th Annual Goschenhoppen Folk Festival, an event put on each year by the Goschenhoppen Historians. The event takes place at the Henry Antes Plantation on Colonial Road, off Route 73 west of Zieglerville, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania USA. The festival occurs every year "on the second Saturday in August and the Friday preceding it" (got that - it's tricky!)
The event showcases farm and home foods and crafts, focusing on the traditions of the 18th and 19th century German cultures that settled this part of the state. There are all sorts of foods being prepared via 18th and 19th century recipes and techniques. In addition one can purchase sandwiches and beverages to eat, even corn pie, fresh peaches and ice cream, funnel cakes and other tempting delicacies.
The grounds are a farm with a very large (for the time) stone house dating back to 1736. There are demonstrations of all sorts of woodworking, textiles, rope making, gunsmithing, leather work and blacksmithing. There are also wagon rides, old fashioned toys, live music and all sorts of activities for a whole family to enjoy. There is an actual apprentice program to try to pass some of these skills along to the next generation.
