The Exeter Scenic River Trail Trail is in Berks County, along Neversink Mountain southeast of Reading. Ye Olde Photographer and his Faire Spouse checked it out on one of those warm late October afternoons that might be a last opportunity for that year.
The Exeter Trail can be accessed off Gibraltar Road at the east end, or near the middle at the Exeter Township Trout Run Sports Complex and Yard Waste Recycling center. The complex may be reached via East Neversink Road, traveling south from Business Route 422. The trail is a 2.3 mile path, wide, fairly level and paved mostly with rolled cinders, ideal for cycling. The western end connects to the Klapperthal Trail, a narrow trail with much rougher surface and steeper grades probably best suited to travel on foot or with mountain bike.
The Klapperthal Trail is the eastern-most trail in a network of trails on Neversink Mountain. Approximately 500 acres of the mountain are preserved under the watch of the Berks Conservancy.
