The Berks County town of Birdsboro has more than two centuries of iron and steel industry. As such it was at one time a hub of railroad activity. The late 20th century was not so kind to the town, but the early 21st century shows some encouraging revitalization.
This gallery began with a an attempt to record a former Pennsylvania Railroad Depot in the center of town before it is disassembled and moved to Pottstown. There it will become a BikeShare depot and tie in with a tourist rail operation from Pottstown to Boyertown on the old Colebrookdale line; the Secret Valley Line.
Birdsboro was once the home of Armorcast, a huge facility that built tanks for the military starting in the early 1940s. The plant is pretty much gone except for four huge brick stacks. Ye Olde Photographer recorded some of the demolition process in 2011 and 2012.
We will eventually cover some other structures in the town.
