The best part about the 2008 Cycle World International Motorcycle Show might have been the breakfast gathering of about a dozen of us at a nearby Cracker Barrel restaurant. Compared to previous years, the show itself was a bit of a disappointment. A number of manufacturers were not present at the event, including BMW, Aprilia, Moto Guzzi, MV Agusta, Benelli, Bimota and Triumph. The Arizona Cardinals' football stadium isn't the best of venues in part due to its location in the far northwest part of the Phoenix metro area. It's also weird to have some of the motorcycle manufacturer displays indoors and downstairs on the floor of the facility and others outside the stadium at ground level. We're hopeful that next year's show will be located at the convention center in downtown Phoenix (now under construction) and that the missing European marques will participate as they have in the past. A personal favorite at the show was the innovative "Architects of Inspiration" exhibition, a melding of custom bikes by Roland Sands Design (RSD) and diverse works by a number of contributing artists. |
