Southern Living 101

Port Wentworth, Georgia

Having drove all day and arriving at our hotel hungry with limited food choices, that is unless we wanted to drive some more we decided to introduce Kayla to this fine dining establishment right next to our Holiday Inn. Welcome to the south...

It's as bad as I remember. Maybe I don't remember eating here in my younger years due to a state of intoxication? Possibly? Probably for sure? I don't know. However, the menu has not changed and the food was pretty bad. No, I'l be honest. I was awful... I told Kayla it had been 20 years since I was in one of these, she said she'll never set foot in one again as long as she lives. Smart girl.

Pardon me cutting this short as I need a shower after sitting in this American icon of bacon grease and waffle batter.

Sorry. I can't pass a waffle house. Ate a 3 different ones in a single day once. It's a piece of Americana. And their food is not bad. Smothered and covered, and make it country. Hell yea.

I'm guilty of being southern. Tom and I love the hash browns - smothered & capped for me (Waffle House language for onions and mushrooms) and Tom likes his with white sausage gravy. But our regular stop on the way to Louisiana is pretty clean, friendly waitresses and has good Tuna Melts.

How is anyone still alive in the South? I like the vibe of the shot though; night time "indoors from outdoors" shots always appeal top me.

Seems the best and worse things are most remembered. Nice pic and story, David.
