Paparazzi

Sometimes the hustle of social media is nothing more than a buzz in our ears and sameness in front our eyes. Overwhelming us in bullshit and stuff thats really not important at all. On rare occasion something worthwhile hits your feed on Facebook or trends on twitter that causes a response. More than a "like," or a perfunctory response of thats nice or wow but creates a real desire to go participate and make a difference.

Yesterday I got one of those posts on my Facebook. Here is it-

"We are looking for any photographer that would like to donate approximately 15 minutes of their time to a good cause on Saturday night at Crocker Park.
I work for a local police department and we are helping make a wish come true for a 5 year old boy. This boy is dying from terminal brain cancer and only has months to live.
His wish is to be treated like a celebrity for one night. He wants to take a limo to Brio at Crocker Park for a fancy meal. When the Westlake Police heard of this we wanted to step in and help by providing a police escort, security, etc. I also thought it would be great to have "paparazzi" there waiting for him. That's where I need help! How great would it be to surprise him and document this for this family?"

Yeah-read it again. I felt compelled and I told my wife and kids that we should go. I am so glad we did as not only did a couple people show up. But a full police escort, a private security detail rolled in as only a celebrity can. Add 20 plus photographers swarming the Limo. Super Hero's showed up, while crowds clapped and chanted for Quinn giving a sick little boy a few moments to relish in the attention he asked for in his Make A Wish request. Strangers, friends and family gathered to lift not only Quinn, but his family too.

For sure it was a feel good event but I am left a little hollow inside at knowing this little guy is fighting for his life. I hope this event carry's him today and onto his finals day and lets his family know they are not alone in their journey.

Paparazzi-another PaD that will stay with me for a long time...
